Knowledge to Impact:
Advancing our model of collective leadership
Fellows explain the dimensions of our collective leadership vision. We will continue to build on the foundation established by the network of over 200 exceptional, pioneering fellows in the Leopold Leadership Program.
Transdisciplinarity?
We are using the term transdisciplinarity as another way to describe “knowledge to impact”. As cited by Janet Hering (2001) in a recent paper, the term refers to research that:
-
Tackles real life problems
-
Addresses the complexity of these problems by involving a variety of actors from science and practice and accounting for the diversity of their perspectives, and
-
Creates knowledge that is solution-oriented, socially robust, and transferable to both scientific and societal practice.
Collective Leadership Framework
Addressing today's environmental and sustainability challenges calls for new forms of individual and collective leadership. The Earth Leadership Program has adapted the concept and dimensions of this framework to help academic environmental leaders around the world become agents of change within and beyond their universities.
Why “Collective Leadership?” We continue to embrace a leadership model that encourages individuals to cross boundaries and work collaboratively to transform systems. This collective leadership model is well-suited to academic researchers who rely on broad networks to advance sustainability.
Embarking on our future:
Announcing the transition to the Earth Leadership Program!
After 20 successful years, the Leopold Leadership Program has a new name and identity as the Earth Leadership Program. As a program of Future Earth, in collaboration with the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment and the University of Colorado, Boulder, the Earth Leadership Program, will expand the reach of the Leopold Leadership Program - relaunching the North American Cohort and developing regional cohorts in other parts of the world. We also want to welcome our new Executive Director, Sharon Collinge, Together, we are now embarking on a bold mission to scale the impact of academic researchers to solve sustainability challenges by co-designing and internationalizing our leadership training.
